Good afternoon...
Introduction: When the State of Michigan moved state testing online, they forced a lot of changes for students and teachers. Many teachers, used to using computers in specific ways as they and their students were comfortable, were forced to consider students engaging computers in high stakes situations, and forced to consider what it would take to make sure that students were prepared beyond the content alone.
The goal of these activities is to allow you to experience these environments the way that a student might experience them in the classroom.
Please complete the tasks as fully as you can. Many of these applications have teacher dashboards (complete with data, accountability, and student-progress monitoring) that I look forward to showing you as part of our time today. The more tasks get completed, the more detailed and helpful those explanations will be.
Also, as you explore these, please consider:
- What advantages might there be to implementing one (or more) of these resources in your classroom?
- What barriers might there be to implementing one (or more) of these resources in your classroom?
Please choose one of the following learning environments to explore.
I hope that you continue to explore these (and other) ways to push your students' abilities learning and performing academically in digital space.
Below are two additional resources that (hopefully) you'll find helpful.
First is a page of resources dedicated to the M-Step (and it's forerunner, the Smarter Balanced Assessment).
The second is a form that you can use to reach out to me if you'd like more information, tips, activities, or other support on any of the resources that we explored here today.
Thank you for welcoming me to your school today and please let me know if there's any other ways I can be helpful.
